asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who is suffering from mental handicap is being cared for in St. Brendan's Psychiatric Hospital, Grangegorman, Dublin 7, contrary to his Department's policy; the reason the person concerned has not been placed in St. Ita's, Portrane, as recommended by those caring for him; and if he will ensure that resources are urgently made available to allow places for him and for similar patients.

I have had inquiries made of the Eastern Health Board and I have been informed that the person referred to by the Deputy was admitted to St. Brendan's Hospital from Stewart's Hospital, Palmerstown, because of problems relating to his management at that hospital. The patient has not been found suitable at the present time for transfer to St. Ita's Hospital for various reasons of a clinical nature. I might add that the assistant inspector of mental hospitals has visited this patient on a number of occasions and has reported that while his behaviour continues to be unpredictable, he is reasonably contented in St. Brendan's Hospital.
