Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Speech Disorder.

248.

asked the Minister for Health the reason there is no place available in a specialised unit for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who has a severe speech disorder and who is unable to attend a normal school; and the plans he has to respond to his need and to the needs of the increasing number of children on waiting lists.

I have been in touch with the Eastern Health Board concerning this case.

The position is that the person in question was attending the Central Remedial Clinic, Clontarf, up to June 1988 with a hearing problem. This problem was treated and he was admitted in June 1988 to the special school at Temple Street for assessment for his speech difficulties. It was considered by the Temple Street services that he could attend an ordinary school when he was of age. His present position will be examined by the Eastern Health Board's public health nursing services.
