Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dental Council.

251.

asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the progress to date of the Dental Council in establishing auxiliaries to complement the work of dental surgeons; if he has put any proposals to the council in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the provisions of the Dentists Act, 1985, it is a matter for the Dental Council initially to institute proposals for the establishment of classes of auxiliary dental workers. I have recently given approval in principle to a proposal by the Dental Council to draw up a scheme for the establishment of a class of dental hygienist and I am expecting to have the council's formal proposals in relation to other classes of auxiliary dental workers very soon.
