Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Funding for Southern Health Board.

252.

asked the Minister for Health, having regard to the inadequacy of the funding provided for the Southern Health Board and the fact that a £3 million over-expenditure is likely, if he will provide immediate additional cash to alleviate the difficulty.

I do not accept the Deputy's contention that £3 million over-expenditure will be incurred by the Southern Health Board. I believe the board can observe the budgetary limits set by the adoption of realistic measures which protect the basic fabric of their services. I have met with the chairman and chief executive officer on three occasions since notifying the allocation. At each meeting I pointed out that there can be no question of any increase in allocations now set and the position so remains.
