Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Supernumerary Posts of Responsibility.

272.

asked the Minister for Education whether persons (details supplied) in Dublin 6 and Dublin 20 respectively held supernumerary posts of responsibility; and, if so, whether a similar arrangement could be made in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

I have checked the position, concerning the cases listed by the Deputy, in my Department.

In 1980 the school employing the first two teachers referred to in the questions closed. The teachers transferring from that school to other schools retained their post of responsibility allowances. This was in accordance with my Department's standard practice in relation to school closure and it is in that context that those teachers hold supernumerary posts of responsibility.

However, the case of the third teacher is different. The individual in this case resigned his post of principal in 1986. My Department has no provision for continuing payment of a post of responsibility allowance to a teacher who has resigned his post.
