asked the Minister for Defence the date on which the present Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces is due to complete his term of office; when he is due to retire; if he has any plans to extend his term of office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): The term of office of the present Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces is due to expire on 16 October 1989. He will retire on that date as he will have attained the age prescribed for the retirement of officers of his rank.
