Vol. 389 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commuter Railway Stations.

7.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if, pending a Government decision on the proposals he received in August 1988 from CIE relating to public transport for the greater Dublin area, he has any plans to give separate approval for the opening of four new commuter stations on the Maynooth-Dublin rail line at Confey, Coolmine, Blanchardstown and Broom-bridge; if he will give an estimate of the costs of providing these stations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I recently conveyed approval to the Chairman of Córas Iompair Éireann for the proposed upgrading of the commuter service on the Dublin/Maynooth line, including the opening of new stations at Confey, Coolmine, Blanchardstown and Broomebridge at a cost of about £0.7 million. The board indicated that they were unable to provide for these works out of their capital allocation for 1989. I have requested them to consider proceeding this year with the proposal in the light of its inclusion in the national plan for aid from EC Structural Funds.
