Vol. 389 No. 3

Written Answers. - Long Term Illness.

60.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 is not classed as having a long term illness under the Eastern Health Board scheme, as this person is a paraplegic and has medical expenses in excess of £100 per month; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person in question cannot qualify for inclusion in the long term illness scheme as his condition is not one of the specific 15 conditions covered by that scheme. This person is at present the holder of a medical card and I understand that, in addition to the usual range of services available in this regard, the Eastern Health Board has provided him with additional requisities, appropriate to his needs, free of charge on hardship grounds. As the Eastern Health Board are responsible for the provision of services in this case, the Deputy should consult the area 7 office of the board at Árus Daimhín, Jones's Road, if he wishes to make further inquiries.
