According to the 1986 census of population, which is the most recent source of information available, there were 2,483 farmers in County Leitrim in April 1986. The corresponding figures from the 1971 and 1981 censuses were 5,173 and 3,288 respectively.

According to the 1986 census of population, which is the most recent source of information available, there were 3,559 farmers in County Sligo in April 1986. The corresponding figures from the 1971 and 1981 censuses were 6,215 and 4,393 respectively.
