Vol. 389 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

54.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a ewe premium grant was refused in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for the ewe premium scheme from the person in question was received in my Department on 25 April 1989, which was almost six weeks after the closing date of 16 March 1989. The application was accompanied by a medical certificate covering a period after the closing date and for that reason it could not be regarded as justifying a late application. If, however, the person in question can furnish medical evidence that he was ill around the period leading up to 16 March 1989, the last date for receipt of applications, my Department will reconsider the application.

55.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a beef premium and calf subsidy were not paid to a person (details supplied) in 1988; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this person claims that more than half his income is derived from farming.

The person named will be paid his 1988 calf premium and EC special beef premium schemes grants shortly. His eligibility for grants under the 1988 suckler cow premium scheme will be considered further when an assessment of whether or not his off-farm income exceeds his on-farm income is finalised. The reason delay in payment has arisen is because of a change of ownership in the herd number from his deceased father's name to the person named.

56.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will sanction payment of a grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork, having regard to the fact that all details requested by his Department have been submitted.

The claim is being processed and payment will issue shortly.
