asked the Minister for Finance the amount of currency seized by Customs and Excise officials at Irish airports and seaports over the past year; the number of prosecutions brought as a result of such seizures; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that during the year ended 30 April 1989, Customs and Excise officials at Irish airports and seaports seized currency valued at £51,935 and £1,910, respectively, and no prosecutions were instituted as a result of such seizures.
