Vol. 391 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - National Park Proposal.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received submissions from interests in County Kildare regarding the possible designation of the Curragh as a national park; if he will support such a proposal having regard to the pivotal nature of the area in question whereby ready access could be provided for recreational, cultural, educational and historical interests; if he will assist in the realisation of the proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any submissions regarding the possible designation of the Curragh as a national park.

There are internationally-accepted criteria to be met before an area will be recognised as a national park. The curragh would not meet these criteria.
