The total amount of national lottery ticket sales from the establishment of the lottery to date is approximately £316 million.
The amount of money which was paid out in prizes, wages and general expenses in 1987 and 1988 was £134.25 million.
It is not the practice to provide midyear figures relating to the detailed operations of the national lottery. This is a matter for the Board of An Post National Lottery Company who have been licensed to operate the lottery. It is anticipated that a full breakdown of the 1989 performance will be available early in 1990, when the annual report and audited accounts for the company are published.
To date, £24.7 million has been allocated for the purposes of sport. In addition, £11.5 million has been allocated for amenity projects, many of which involve the provision of facilities at sport clubs.
