Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Fuel Rebate Scheme.

52.

asked the Minister for the Marine the reason for the fuel rebate scheme for fishing boat owners; the persons to whom the rebate is paid; and if he will ensure that rebates to share owned boats are paid to or divided among share owners including deck hands.

The fuel rebate scheme was introduced to reduce the effect of the cost of fuel on the viability and competitiveness of Irish fishing vessels. The rebate is paid by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners to the skipper/owner of each vessel involved. My Department has no function in the distribution of the rebate.
