Vol. 392 No. 9

Written Answers. - Hospital Admissions.

101.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received a report on the detailed breakdown of the public-private mix in hospital admissions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is the Government's policy that access to acute hospital services should be evaluated to ensure that medical need acts as the overall criterion for admission.

My Department have, therefore, recently instructed hospitals to gather and submit information on the status of their in-patients to enable the private-public mix in public hospitals to be evaluated. This information is currently being collected.
