Vol. 392 No. 9

Written Answers. - Condition of School Yard.

109.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received representations from the Holy Family National School, Rathcoole, County Dublin, regarding the dangerous condition of the school yard; if the necessary work will be undertaken to make it safe for children using the yard; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

A scheme of improvements is in progress at Holy Family national school, Rathcoole, County Dublin which is being grant-aided by my Department. The approval works include the resurfacing of the existing playspace with tarmacadam on the basis of proposals submitted by the school's architect. It was necessary to defer this work pending the demolition of a former school building on the site. The demolition of this building and the consequential reinstatement of the ground has now been approved by my Department and it is expected that these works will proceed at an early date. The resurfacing of the existing playspace in tarmacadam can then be undertaken.
