Vol. 392 No. 9

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) School.

110.

asked the Minister for Education if whe will outline the representations she has received from St. Ronan's primary school, Deansrath, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, for urgently needed additional classrooms; if approval will be given to meet the needs of the estimated intake of children for September 1990; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Earlier this year my Department examined a request from the school authorities for the provision of six classrooms to cater for projected enrolments for September 1989 and subsequent school years in St. Ronan's national school, Deansrath. Having investigated the matter in detail it was clear that there was sufficient national school accommodation available within a reasonable distance of Deansrath national school. There did not, therefore, appear to be a need for additional classrooms on a permanent basis at Deansrath.

However, in the light of some enrolment difficulties, my Department sanctioned two pre-fab classrooms for September 1989. It is considered that this gave the school authorities adequate scope to adopt an enrolment policy in order to satisfy the demand for school places from prospective pupils who already had older brothers and sisters in Deansrath national school. My Department will keep the matter under consideration.
