Written Answers. - Cost of PRSI Changes.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the cost to the Exchequer of the reduction in employers' PRSI by 1 per cent this year, (b) the cost to the Exchequer of the introduction of an allowance equal to the personal allowance for all taxpayers against their PRSI and (c) the gain to the Exchequer by the abolition of the ceiling on PRSI.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

(a) The estimated full year cost to the Exchequer of a reduction in employer's PRSI by 1 per cent is £63 million.

(b) The estimated cost to the Exchequer of introducing an allowance equivalent to the present single personal allowance against employee and self-employed social insurance fund contribution is £95 million.

(c) The estimated gain to the Exchequer from abolishing the ceiling on employer, employee and self-employed social insurance fund contributions is £97 million.
