Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Work of Valuation Office.

44.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the work that has been undertaken by the Valuation Office since 1977 in relation to the continuous valuation of existing and new residential properties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance, in respect of each of the years from 1986 to 1988, inclusive, the number of new houses that each local authority has sought to have valued by the Valuation Office for the purposes of establishing the valuation base upon which the rates support grant must be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 52 together. Data on the number of houses listed for valuation is in tabular form which I will circulate with my reply. The allocation and distribution of the rates support grant is a matter for the Minister for the Environment.

Although the provisions of the Local Government (Financial) Provisions Act, 1978, relieved householders of rates, under the Valuation Acts domestic property is still rateable. I am informed by the Commissioner of Valuation that it is still the practice to value such property when requested to do so by local authorities.
