Vol. 394 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Na hOileáin Fán Chósta.

12. D'fhiafraigh

den Taoiseach cad iad na hoileáin fán chósta ar a bhfuil daoine ina gcónaí; agus cad é an líon daoine ar gach oileán de réir an daonáirimh is déanaí.

Tá sé i gceist agam ráiteas a chur timpeall leis an eolas atá ag teastáil ón Teachta.

Following is the statement:

* In some cases the areas of land concerned may not, strictly speaking, be considered as islands since they are connected to the mainland by a causeway or bridge, or may be reached by land at low tide.

An bhféadfadh an tAire Stáit a rá cé mhéid de na hoileáin seo nach bhfuil aitheanta mar cheantar Ghaeltachta.

Sin ceist eile, agus beidh an t-eolas ag an Teachta nuair a gheobhaidh sé an tábla seo. Anois, d'fhéadfainn dul thart in m'intinn tríd na Gaeltachtaí go léir agus tríd na hoileáin go léir agus is dócha go bhfuil an freagra céanna ag an Teachta McGinley. Má tá deacracht ar bith aige maidir leis an tábla seo, beidh mé breá-shásta é a phlé leis anseo ar ais inár gceantar dúchais féin. Tá suas le 50 oileán nó breis anseo agus beidh orm dul trí gach ceann acu. Níl difir ar bith déanta anseo idir na hoileáin Ghaeltachta agus na hoileáin Ghalltachta. Ach má tá deacracht ar bith ag an Teachta McGinley, gheobhaidh mé briseadh síos idir Gaeltacht agus Galltacht.

On a point of order, I should like to protest at the refusal to take two of my Priority Questions which dealt with——

That is not a point of order.

I should like to put on the record my objection both to the notice I received, which did not reach my office until lunch time today, and, secondly——

Deputy Flaherty, your questions were ruled out of order for very good and cogent reasons.

I would argue that these matters were not touched on——

The Deputy had an opportunity also of submitting substitute questions and she failed to do so.

That was not made known to me——

The Deputy should know that.

It was not made known to me that it was necessary. A colleague of mine was refused that facility last week——

The Deputy is intervening in respect of priority time.

I will seek further meetings with you in relation to this matter.

The Deputy is completely out of order and if there were more than three Priority Questions today I would emphasise that more strongly. Priority Question No. 13.
