Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Border Security.

180.

asked the Minister for Justice the resources in terms of man hours and personnel numbers involved in Border security arrangements in the past five years.

It would be contrary to established practice and to the public interest to disclose the information sought by the Deputy.

181.

asked the Minister for Justice the total cost to his Department of security arrangements involving Border security in the past five years.

The costs associated with Border security are not separately compiled and the allocation of scarce Garda resources to the task of compiling them would not be warranted. However, it is estimated that the total additional security cost in the past five years arising from the situation in the North, as far as the Votes administered by my Department are concerned, is about £312 million.
