asked the Minister for Defence the resources in terms of man hours and personnel numbers involved in Border security arrangements in the past five years.

For reasons of security it is not the practice to disclose details of the number of personnel involved in Border security arrangements.

56.

asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to his Department of security arrangements, involving Border security in the past five years.

In so far as my Department are concerned, the extra security cost attributable to the Northern Ireland situation in the last five years is estimated at £500 million. A separate figure in respect of Border security is not available.
