Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Income Tax Relief.

63.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 4 was refused income tax relief on his endowment mortgage assurance policy in an arbitrary manner; if he will arrange to have the full allowances given to the person concerned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the person concerned has been granted income tax relief on his portion of the loan interest. A certificate of tax free allowances giving this relief issued on 16 November. In regard to the life assurance element joint life policies are admissible only where the insurance is on the joint lives of a husband and wife. In the circumstances the person will be entitled to income tax relief on the life assurance element of the policy only from the date of marriage.
