The role and responsibility to develop commercial forestry in the public sector was developed by the Oireachtas on Coillte Teoranta under the Forestry Act, 1988. The long standing role of Bord na Móna to develop bogs and peat-based industry is being revised in the Turf Development Bill at present before the Dáil. These arrangements provide a suitable basis for the future development of our bog and forest resources.
