Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Training Block.

29.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in respect of the new fire station at present being built at Kill Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, he will make the necessary arrangements to have a training block provided as part of this development, particularly in view of the density of population in the area depending on this vital service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The new fire station at present under construction in Dún Laoghaire includes a lecture room, drill yard and training tower facilities which are not available in the existing fire station. More extensive training facilities are available at a number of locations throughout the country, including the Dublin area, to which fire authorities generally would have ready access. Consideration of proposals for investment in additional major training facilities is being deferred pending receipt of a report from the Fire Services Council on the training needs of the fire service generally.
