Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Education Grants.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

107 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education her views on whether a means test only should operate for the granting of third level education grants and that the requirement of four honours should be removed forthwith; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have already indicated that I am carrying out a review of the higher education grants scheme at present including, inter alia, the question of the four honours rule.

I should also like to point out that the grant schemes are subject to annual ongoing review in the light of difficulties that come to the attention of my Department and representations received.

Any proposals I may have as a result of these reviews will be conveyed in the normal way when the schemes for this year are published.
