Séamus Pattison

Question:

60 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the progress likely to be made in 1990 in establishing a psychological service for national schools.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

147 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the full psychological service pilot scheme for primary schools in Dublin West; if she will locate a psychological service for the pilot scheme at Ronanstown, Clondalkin, Dublin 22; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 60 and 147 together.

A pilot psychological service for primary schools will be established in 1990. The areas designated for the pilot service are west Tallaght-Clondalkin and south Tipperary. Two of my Department's existing psychologists are being assigned to the project. In addition the Civil Service Commission are making arrangements for the early recruitment of four extra psychologists to work in the areas concerned. Preparatory work for the smooth introduction of this pilot service is at an advanced stage in my Department.
