Vol. 395 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cereals Moisture Content.

Phil Hogan

Question:

107 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will consider appointing an inspector from his Department to act as an arbitrator for the purpose of establishing the moisture content in cereals, particularly in view of the lack of uniform sampling being practised at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any lack of uniformity in the sampling of moisture content in the cereals trade. In practice particular cases in dispute have been referred on appeal to the National Food Centre at Dunsinea and to my Department's seed testing station. The results established at these independent laboratories, which operate to international standards, are accepted by all parties concerned.
