Vol. 395 No. 8

Written Answers. - Report on Industrial Performance.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

4 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the report on industrial performance has been completed; the reason it has not been published; when it is intended to publish it; and if the author's conclusions will be published unaltered.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the triennial review of industrial performance, covering the period 1987 to 1989, which I am required to prepare under section 6 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986. Work in relation to the review is very well advanced within my Department. I expect it to be completed within a matter of weeks with a view to early publication.

As regards the final part of the Deputy's question, I believe he may be confusing the triennial review with a separate report on industrial strategy submitted to the Department in July 1989 by Dr. Frank Roche of UCD. This report relates to indigenous industry only and its conclusions will be considered in the context of the broader review.
