Question:

49 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider the establishment of a semi-State holding company to own and manage the existing semi-State manufacturing companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I see little benefit in a proposal to establish a holding company as described by the Deputy. I believe that it could result in the imposition of a further layer of bureaucracy and do little to enhance the future commercial prospects of the companies in question.
