Vol. 395 No. 8

Written Answers. - Accommodation In Dublin School.

Tony Gregory

Question:

89 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the number of children attending the Central Model Schools, Marlborough Street, Dublin 1; the length of time the school has been accommodated in prefabricated buildings; if she has made a definite decision to allocate funds from the 1990 capital programme for the rebuilding of the school; if so, the timescale for its rebuilding; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

On 31 December 1989 there were 236 children enrolled at the Model Schools, Marlborough Street, Dublin 1. The school has been accommodated in prefabricated classrooms since 1982 when a fire severely damaged the permanent building at Deverill Place.

I am at present considering the question of the reconstruction and refurbishment of the Deverill Place building in the context of the capital allocation for primary schools and I will convey a decision to the school authorities at the earliest possible date. I am not in a position, at this stage, to give a time scale for building alterations.
