Written Answers. - Hospital Admissions.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

256 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health, in relation to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who is awaiting urgent kidney surgery at Temple Street Hospital, Dublin 1, if he will take steps to ensure that his admission, which has already been postponed on two occasions, takes place on the next appointed date for admission in two weeks' time in order that his health will not be further jeopardised by the delay in providing the necessary treatment.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

257 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 who is suffering from a severe kidney problem and who has already had operations postponed twice will have the operation performed without delay as medical advice is that the person concerned may suffer irreversible damage if the operation is further delayed.

Nuala Fennell

Question:

258 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Health if he will ensure that a bed will be available in Temple Street Children's Hospital, Dublin 1, in two weeks' time for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 who is urgently in need of surgery for kidney malfunction and who has twice been booked in for surgery and on both occasions the bookings were cancelled because of the shortage of beds.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 256, 257 and 258 together.

I have already expressed my concern with the manner in which the hospital has dealt with this case and I am having the details examined by the deputy chief medical officer of my Department. I am very glad to inform the Deputies that the child has had his operation performed.
