Question:

31 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Labour the number of staff employed by the Great Southern Hotels Group at the end of 1989; the number of persons regularly employed on a casual basis during the tourist season.

The total number of staff employed in the Great Southern Hotels Group at 31 December 1989, stood at 310. These were confined to the three hotels open at that time; Eyre Square, Corrib and Killarney.

At the height of the tourist season the group normally employs around 170 extra casual staff, bringing the total complement to 480.
