73 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Energy the proposals he has to implement Article 8 of the European Council Decision 89/364 on a communication programme for improving the efficiency of electricity used; and the provisions he will introduce in order to comply with the decision having regard to the fact that such provisions are obligatory from 1 March 1990.
My Department recently formed a national body within the terms of Decision 89/364 to recommend and to co-ordinate the implementation of action necessary to carry out the programme. The body administered by my Department, which includes representation from the ESB and Eolas, will convene its first meeting very shortly in order to draw up its programme of work. The body also intends to consult with industry, electrical trade and consumer interests in the context of the management and execution of measures under the programme.
