Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - Gifts to Soldiers.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

96 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Defence if soldiers at Clancy Barracks, Dublin 7, were given two bales of briquettes per person for the Christmas break of 1989 and were obliged to carry them home; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The central heating system at the headquarters of the Department was converted from solid fuel to natural gas in September 1989. A number of bales of turf briquettes, surplus to requirements, were handed over to the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund for distribution where it deemed appropriate.
