Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - General Medical Service List.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

118 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health the reason a product (details supplied) is not included in the General Medical Service list; whether any alternative preparation for this condition is available under the list; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The preparation referred to is a simple inexpensive analgesic for mild to moderate pain. It was among those products excluded from the GMS in 1982.

There are a number of products for pain relief available on the GMS. However where a patient has a particular need for this product and its purchase is causing hardship, health boards will give assistance towards the cost of the drug.
