Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tests For Women.

Nuala Fennell

Question:

119 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Health the reason amniocentesis tests for pregnant women are not carried out in the Republic; and whether funding is available for women who must go to Northern Ireland for these tests.

Amniocentesis tests are carried out for pregnant women at maternity hospitals in the Republic where this is indicated as part of ante-natal medical care of the mother and child. The question of funding for tests in Northern Ireland does not therefore arise.
