Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Forestry Grants.

Frank Crowley

Question:

142 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Energy if the recently announced forestry grants for farmers who wish to plant their own land are index linked.

The recently launched forest premium for farmers is not index linked. The maximum premium specified in the governing EC Regulation is being paid for all broadleaves and the first 20 acres of conifers planted. While the scheme may be revised or amended at any time, an upward revision of the rates of payment will not be considered until the upper limit in the EC Regulation is increased.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

143 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Energy when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will receive payment of a forestry plantation grant which was approved for payment on 12 September 1989.

An inspection of land, which was then unplanted, was carried out on 12 September 1989. Since then no forestry grant application has been received from the person concerned in respect of this land. Payments in respect of grants approved earlier have been made to the extent due.
