Question:185 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of persons on housing waiting lists in each of the local authority areas in the country; and the action he is taking to reduce the numbers on such waiting lists.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 174 and 185 together.
The nett numbers of applicants assessed by each housing authority as in need of local authority housing at 30 September 1989 are set out in the schedule being circulated in the Official Report. In 1990 approximately 1,200 dwellings will be added to the local authority housing stock. I expect that the number of houses becoming available for letting during the year will be sufficient to meet acute housing needs in 1990.
