Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant.

Frank Crowley

Question:

236 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Education if a loss sustained in farming can be offset against an off-farm income in order that an applicant would be eligible for a higher education grant.

In cases where income is derived from two or more separate sources, positive income from one source may not be reduced by losses or running expenses from another source. Accordingly, a loss sustained in farming may not be offset against positive income from another source for the purpose of determining reckonable income for a higher education grant.
