Vol. 396 No. 5

Written Answers. - Number of Periodondists.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

39 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health if he will give (a) the number and (b) the locations of periodontists who work in the public health service; and their locations.

Every dentist is trained to carry out simple periodontic procedures as part of the undergraduate training in dentistry. Therefore, every health board dental surgeon can provide these simple treatments. On the rare occasions when an eligible patient needs more complicated periodontic treatment, arrangements are made with one of the dental hospitals to provide the necessary treatment.
