Vol. 396 No. 5

Written Answers. - Kerry Psychiatric Unit.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

40 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health if the Southern Health Board are planning to move the acute psychiatric unit from St. Finan's Hospital, Killarney, County Kerry, to Tralee General Hospital, Tralee, County Kerry; and, if so, if extra funding will be provided to provide extra staffing.

My Department have been in discussion with the Southern Health Board regarding the transfer of acute psychiatric services for County Kerry from St. Finan's Hospital, Killarney to Tralee General Hospital. These discussions are concentrating on the steps necessary to open the acute psychiatric unit at Tralee General Hospital as soon as possible.
