Vol. 396 No. 5

Written Answers. - VAT Excise Duty.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

59 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if all medical evidence has been supplied in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare, who has applied for a special refund of VAT excise duty for motor car and petrol; if he qualifies under this heading, having regard to the fact that the person concerned can only drive a specially adapted motor car; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the person concerned has now supplied to them all the medical details necessary for consideration of a claim under the disabled drivers scheme for relief from excise duty and VAT on motor vehicles. The person is eligible to benefit under the scheme. A refund of VAT has already been made. Repayment of the excise duty has been authorised and payment will be made shortly. The person concerned is also being registered under the disabled drivers petrol scheme.
