Vol. 396 No. 6

Written Answers. - Provision of Long-Stay Care.

Pat Lee

Question:

188 Dr. Lee asked the Minister for Health if he will give an assurance that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 will be taken into long-stay care at an early date.

The responsibility for providing long-term care to persons in the Dublin area is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I understand that the person concerned was discharged from James Connolly Memorial Hospital on 2 February 1990 and is now awaiting placement in a health board welfare home. Admission to long stay care is on a priority need basis as vacancies arise and is being dealt with by the consultant geriatrician concerned. At present the person is accommodated in a nursing home.
