Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - RTE Transmissions to Northern Ireland.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

46 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the issue of the right of RTE to transmit to Northern Ireland has been discussed at the Anglo-Irish talks; and, if so, the response which has been given to such a request.

The issue has been discussed regularly with the British authorities, and there has been general agreement between both sides on the benefits to be derived from improving RTE reception in Northern Ireland. However, the British authorities have identified a number of technical difficulties to the process and ways of overcoming these are being sought in the discussions.
