Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Relief.

Seán Ryan

Question:

22 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the cost to the Exchequer of tax relief aimed at developing forestry in 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since the profits or gains from the occupation of commercially managed woodlands in the State are exempt from income tax and corporation tax there is no obligation on individuals or companies to include such profits or gains in a return of their total income and accordingly statistics are not available which would enable an estimate to be given of the cost of the exemption.

With regard to reliefs or incentives available in respect of other taxes, I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided.
