Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Appointees to State Boards.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

33 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Finance the procedures, if any, which exist for ascertaining the financial background of proposed appointees to the boards of semi-State companies.

There are no formal procedures for investigating the financial background of proposed appointees to State boards. Appointments are made either by the relevant Minister with the consent of the Minister for Finance or by the Government. The Minister making the appointment will normally be familiar with the appointee and will have satisfied himself as to his or her suitability for the position. The record of appointments to State boards will show that the directors have discharged their responsibilities with diligence and integrity.
