Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - Custodial Institutions.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

86 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Justice if he will list the custodial institutions under his care which have no visiting committees in place; the length of time they have been without such visiting committees; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The terms of office of the visiting committees to the prisons and places of detention listed hereunder expired on 31 December 1989. Arrangements for the appointment of committees to these institutions are being finalised and I expect to make the appointments at an early date: Mountjoy Prison, Limerick Prison, Cork Prison, Arbour Hill Prison, Portlaoise Prison, Training Unit, Shelton Abbey, St. Patrick's Institution, Shanganagh Castle, Loughan House and Fort Mitchel.
