Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sewage Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

87 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in allocating funds to Kildare County Council to enable that body provide sewage facilities for the village of Robertstown; whether he has approved the plans already prepared in relation to this matter; whether he intends to provide the necessary funds to have the work carried out in the current year; if his attention has been drawn to the tourist potential of the area, particularly during the summer months and consequently the necessity for the facilities in question; the likely schedule for the provision of facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the importance of Robertstown as a tourist area and its potential as a strategic location for the development of our inland waterways.

The proposals submitted by Kildare County Council are under technical examination in my Department. The question of providing funds and commencing work on the project does not arise at this stage. Any decision in this case must await the outcome of the technical examination.
