Vol. 397 No. 4

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

John Bruton

Question:

79 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the number of remedial teachers who are employed by her Department in County Meath.

In relation to primary schools, there are 26 such teachers giving a remedial education service to 47 such schools in County Meath.

In the case of post-primary schools the information requested by the Deputy is as follows: secondary schools, two ex-quota remedial teachers; community and comprehensive schools, one ex-quota remedial teacher; vocational schools, two ex-quota remedial teachers. County Meath Vocational Education Committee also employs one remedial guidance teacher in an ex-quota capacity.

Remedial teachers may be employed within the quota by individual schools, but my Department's records would not readily identify such teachers.
